12. November 2017

It's been 12 days since I've suffered a knee injury. A sideband tear.

I have to say: I'm fine! First and foremost I would like to thank all the physiotherapists and my team who have been working with me from the first hour of diagnosis, so that the knee becomes really well again. When it is exactly 100% loadable, of course, is in the stars, but I feel very good, I'm really very satisfied with the progress so far.

Of course it is a bit different now, the start of the season will unfortunately take place without me, although I really really wanted to come to Poland and be part of this Olympic season right from the start. But I have to accept this. At the end of november, planned on the 25th, I’ll start ski jumping in austria again coming back step by step to the top of the world. The Date when I’ll actually be back in the World Cup, is still in the stars, it is about the health of the knee. I’m sure everything is gonna be find and I’m waiting forward to be back on the hill again. Now there is training, rehab and physiotherapy scheduled. So the "familiar", a schedule I had a lot in the last few months. But it is still something special for me and it is great fun.

At the first moment, when you lie in the snow, when your knee hurts, when your knee pricks, then you think to yourself: Why now again? But from the moment you get the diagnosis and you know what's going on, you get the knowledge, that, thank God, it’s not that bad, then you figure out another plan in mind again. Of course, as an athlete, it's never nice to have an injury, no matter when it happens, but first and foremost I'm grateful and glad that overall, health is still there and that it's not that bad.

The only thing that has changed is the date, when I can get back in and I will use this extra time now.

Wieder das Knie :(

What happened:

On Monday the 30th of October I fell on the ÖSV training course in Ramsau on the slip track when driving out.

It went pretty stupid: the ski tilted in the snow and twisted my right knee.
I felt immediatly that something was wrong and I felt a bit sick.
As a result, I rushed to a specialist in Innsbruck to have a look at it and have an MRI done. Dr. Wulf Glötzer then made the diagnosis that the side ligament is torn, I have a bruise in the bone and the cruciate ligament is overstretched.

Of course, that's not a good moment because I'll miss the World Cup start in Wisla this year.
But there are much more bitter things in life. First and foremost, I am glad that nothing even worst happend. Such mishaps happen in elite sports and it was easy for me to accept that. Nothing has changed except the date when I will start again in the World Cup.
At first I was very disappointed of course. Lying back in the snow and feeling pain was a terrible feeling.

But I'm feeling very well again. I see it positively: I now have more time in preparation for snow. Setbacks are part of it and I can not change it anyway.

We will now treat the knee without surgery. First of all, keep calm with a rail so that the sideband can heal.

I will continue to trust in my feelings and only start again when the knee is healed and I feel ready. I makes me positive that, thank God, my body heals very quickly.

Together with my team I will see day after day how the knee works and what my head says. Moving on step by step.
I miss ski jumping and the feeling in the air. That's the best motivation there can be.
