IT’S A GREAT FEELING TO BE BACK!

17. January 2017

The first jump in Wisla on Sunday: that will probably be the one moment I remember for the next ten years. Despite the height, I thought that I just have to do such a jump in a World Cup. And it worked out, even the knee held.

And then: The adrenaline rushing in whilst landing. I can already feel all the emotions on the counter slope. The satisfaction of having implemented the training achievements. Everything in me screams loudly and clearly YES. At first, I did not even notice the 20th - only when coaches and colleagues pointed this out to me.

Of course, I still have a lot more training jumps to do - and this will work on my automatisms and consistency. However, it was a very good start. I am on the right way.

The journey to Wisla was a test in humbleness and patience. We arrived at two o'clock on Thursday.

It was very emotional to meet colleagues from other nations again at breakfast, to feel the anticipation, the excitement and the awareness of being an active professional jumper again. The feeling on the hill, the atmosphere and the processes around it, on the one hand have caused nervousness, but at the same time also resulted in a lot of clarity and peace in me.

Ski jumping gives me a lot of joy at the moment. For the first time in my life, I feel like I'm jumping on my own, with no pressure to prove myself and full of gratitude, to do what I love. To realize this, I took some distance, a pause to reflect and to let go, to see what I want and what has priority.

I am no longer just chasing World Cup victories or satisfying the ego. Ski jumping is just a beautiful sport, a great movement. Maybe you can compare it to riding in powder whilst skiing. It's about something that gives pleasure and feels good.

The next few weeks will be very intense, but also very structured, full of rhythm and plan. This is very unusual compared to the last few months. But I am fine, because I like structure and can flourish in such an environment.

Hopefully already in Zakopane. I am looking forward to it!
